WHAT WILL YOU DO

The General Manager of Springbank Airport is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Springbank Airport, ensuring aligned execution of the established business plans, goals and objectives and the performance of the team within the department. The GM works closely with the Chief Operating Officer, peer senior leaders, and their team to collaborate, communicate and effectively achieve results. Springbank Airport serves as an executive and general aviation reliever airport for the Calgary International Airport. This role involves ensuring compliance with Transport Canada regulations, fostering community relations, budget management, and overseeing airport operations.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Lead and oversee team at Springbank, ensuring efficient and effective operations.
  • Manage team activities and performance, fostering professional growth and collaboration.
  • Responsible for the safe, cost effective, and environmentally sound development and operation of the Springbank Airport, ensuring that the corporate mission, vision, values, and business strategies are taken into account in all undertakings.
  • Ensure that the airport is operated in accordance with the Airport Operations Manual following all the provisions of Transport Canada’s guiding document TP312 and 5th edition.
  • Liaise with The Authority’s leasing and development departments with respect to lease documentation, development guidelines, and construction installation permits for all new developments.
  • Foster and maintain excellent working relationships with Rocky View County, community residents, as well as tenants and airport stakeholders such as Transport Canada, NAV Canada, Customs Boarder Services Agency, and The Springbank Airport Business and Pilot’s Association (SABPA). 
  • Represent the Authority at public hearings in council on airport issues, chair both the tenant committee and noise consultative committee, and provide regular updates to SABPA and the Authority’s Board of Directors.
  • Develop and maintain the Springbank Airport long term Capital and O&M budgets ensuring that operational efficiencies are utilized without compromise to safety.
  • Lead the operation and facilitate the light duty maintenance of any and or all airfield equipment from vehicles to the Authority owned water and wastewater utility systems. 
  • Respond to emergency and or snow related events on a 24-hour 7-day per week basis.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING

  • The ability to gain and maintain a RAIC (RAIC Program and Application Information)
  • Post-Secondary Education in Aviation Management, Business Administration or a related field. Equivalent combination of progressive experience and education may be considered.
  • Minimum of 8-12 years of experience in airfield operations, field operations, or a combination is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a management role.
  • Proven track record of success in business planning, work planning, operational management and execution of strategic initiatives.
  • Operational management and execution/implementation of plans, programs, projects and team activities.
  • Understanding of aviation regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Highly effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial acumen and budget management expertise.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities.
  • Ability for flexibility in work schedule to respond to issues on-call when needed.
