WHAT WILL YOU DO

The Springbank Operations Technician is responsible for identifying, reporting and, when appropriate, mitigating airport related safety and security issues. This position will proactively ensure a safe airport, operating environment airside and groundside for all aircraft, vehicles, personnel (tenants, and general public) and construction sites by performing daily airport inspections for infrastructure condition and safety hazards. They will liaise with internal and external stakeholders when needed and provide immediate mitigation to aviation safety threats such as wildlife and Foreign Object Debris. In the event of an accident or incident, the Springbank Operations Technician will fulfil the role of Vehicle Escort Coordinator and may fulfil the roll of regulated On-Scene Coordinator, in assisting the airport response to these occurrences. The Springbank Operations Technician will be responsible for maintaining all airport surfaces to ensure a safe Airport operating environment for all aircraft, vehicles and personnel.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Implement the “Airfield Site Self Inspection Program” on a daily basis inclusive of inspection of the airfield, documentation of results and identification of hazards to ensure safe operations at the Springbank Airport.
  • Performing the Aircraft Movement and Surface Condition Report (AMSCR) and Canadian Runway Friction Index (CRFI) report to ensure the safe operation of aircraft during take-off and landing.
  • Responding to all airside and groundside emergencies at Springbank Airport, performing the role of Vehicle Escort Coordinator and liaison with the On-Scene Coordinator of the Emergency Operations Centre.
  • Conduct Bird and Wildlife Management to mitigate risks and reduce aircraft exposure to hazards, recording and documenting as per Transport Canada requirements
  • Actively manage wildlife hazards to aviation safety on the airfield through the use of hazing techniques or lethal control measures as required. This includes poisoning, gassing and the use of firearms.
  • Conduct daily airport and tenant environmental inspections seeking hazards, spills and non-compliance with the Airport’s Environment policies and regulatory non-compliance.
  • Operate heavy, medium and light equipment and complete manual labour to maintain the Springbank Airport surface, security fences, gates and airport signage on an annual basis.
  • Coordinate Airside and Groundside Construction at Springbank through attendance at construction meetings to identify potential conflicts, reduce the operational impact of projects and ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Conduct Small Water and Wastewater Systems Management inclusive of daily, bi-weekly and monthly inspections and sampling, as well as sewage lift stations and sewage lagoon waste level monitoring.
  • Enforce the Airside Vehicle Operating Procedures (AVOP) for all airfield drivers using compliance checks, vehicle monitoring and infraction escalation/education to ensure airside safety.
  • Conduct monthly workplace Occupational Health & Safety inspections and reporting as per federal workplace requirements, including fire extinguisher inspections, safety board inspections, first aid kit inspections, fire door inspections and emergency lighting inspections.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING

  • The ability to gain and maintain a RAIC (RAIC Program and Application Information)
  • The ability to obtain a Personal Acquisition License (PAL)
  • 1-3 years’ experience in roles that primarily operate on an airfield
  • 1-3 years’ experience operating equipment
  • Minimum Class 3 driving license
  • Air Brake certification (Q endorsement)
  • Ability to work a rotating shift schedule and be on call
  • Ability to sit in and operate equipment for potentially extended periods of time
  • Strong safety focus, as shown in your decisions and behaviours
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Experience managing high stress or emergency situations
