WHAT’S THE TEAM LIKE

The Accounting & Finance team plays a critical role in ensuring the financial integrity of Calgary Airports. This Accountant role provides senior-level professional support through the execution and oversight of complex accounting, reconciliation, and internal control activities. Working with a high degree of independence, this role helps strengthen financial accuracy, mitigate risk, and continuously improve accounting processes that support the broader organization.

WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Lead complex general ledger reconciliations and ensure the accuracy and integrity of account balances.
  • Independently research, analyze, and resolve complex customer and vendor account discrepancies, identifying root causes and systemic issues.
  • Plan and conduct internal control and process reviews, assessing effectiveness, compliance, and risk exposure.
  • Identify control gaps and process inefficiencies, clearly communicating findings and recommended improvements to stakeholders.
  • Perform senior-level reviews of aeronautical billing, concession and lease fees, and disbursements to ensure compliance with agreements and policies.
  • Support month-end close activities, including accruals, reclassifications, journal entries, and validation of financial results.
  • Develop and customize financial reports to meet departmental and stakeholder decision-making needs.
  • Provide professional guidance and technical support to accounting staff, including reviewing work for quality and accuracy.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING

  • 4 to 6 years of previous experience in an accounting role. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is required. Relevant professional experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.
  • Intermediate proficiency with accounting systems and Microsoft Excel, including pivot tables and lookup functions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial statement and management assertions (e.g., completeness, occurrence, accuracy, matching).
  • Experience applying procedural audit techniques and supporting audit planning and execution.
  • Intermediate working knowledge of ASPE and IFRS, including financial statement assertions.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and analyzing financial statements, notes, and key ratios.
  • Proven ability to assess internal controls, recommend improvements, and support audit activities.
  • Understanding of lease agreements and their impact on revenue recognition.

WHAT ADDITIONAL SKILLS ARE AN ASSET

  • Bilingual in French and English
  • Working towards a CPA designation is preferred.
  • Ability to cross-train in various accounting roles.
