WHAT’S THE TEAM LIKE
The Fleet Maintenance team at Calgary Airports supports the repair, inspection, and upkeep of vehicles and equipment used across the airfield, terminal, and airport grounds. Their work matters because safe, reliable equipment is essential for 24/7 airport operations, especially during critical activities like airfield maintenance and emergency response. The team prides itself on high‑quality workmanship, strong safety practices, and a supportive learning environment. As a summer student, you’ll work alongside experienced mechanics and technicians who will help you build real hands‑on skills in a live maintenance shop.
WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Periodic maintenance of heavy and light equipment
- Assist with oil changes, air leak testing, electrical and hydraulic work
- Aid in the general maintenance of the Airside Maintenance Center and mobile equipment
- Aid in preventative maintenance of snow fleet, tractors, mowers to ensure reliability for next season
- Support the Airfield Maintenance team with all other tasks required
WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING
- You’ll need to be eligible to obtain and maintain a RAIC, don’t worry – we’ll help you through this! For more details, check out: RAIC Program and Application Information
- To qualify for a Summer Student position, you must be enrolled in a post‑secondary program related to heavy equipment, automotive service technician, agricultural/industrial mechanics or related technical fields. You must be returning to your studies after completing the summer work term and provide documentation confirming your continued enrollment.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems, tools, and shop safety (through coursework, labs, or personal experience).
- Ability to perform hands‑on work, including lifting, shop tasks, and working around equipment.
- As this position is considered safety-sensitive, candidates must successfully complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing as part of the hiring process.
- This role includes driving as part of its duties; therefore, candidates will be required to provide a valid Class 5 driver’s license and a current driver’s abstract as part of the hiring process.
WHAT ADDITIONAL SKILLS ARE AN ASSET
- Bilingual in English and French
- Experience working with hand tools or shop equipment through school or personal projects.
- Exposure to vehicle or equipment maintenance, such as oil changes, repairs, or inspections.
- Experience documenting service records, checklists, or maintenance logs.
- Awareness of mechanical safety procedures, PPE use, or shop standards.
