WHAT ARE SOME OF THE RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Oversee biweekly payroll processing, applying pay rules, internal controls, and collective agreement requirements; manage year-end activities, reconciliations, and variance analysis to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Audit and produce reporting on time and attendance data, verify approvals, resolve discrepancies, and collaborate with scheduling specialists to maintain payroll integrity.
  • Manage employee benefits enrollment, changes, and inquiries; reconcile premiums and deductions, and maintain strong relationships with providers while staying current on industry trends.
  • Oversee pension and RRSP administration, validate contributions.
  • Act as a resource for employee education and governance follow-up.
  • Prepare payroll and benefits reports, maintain audit-ready documentation, and ensure adherence to the Payroll Administration Control Framework (PACF) and dual-review principles.
  • Collaborate with HR business partners and Finance to align payroll and compensation budgets with workforce plans, monitor cost of talent.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO BRING

  • 3+ years of experience in payroll administration, benefits, and pension management.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian payroll legislation, Canada Labour Code, Pay Equity Act, CRA requirements (Income Tax Act, CPP/EI), and collective agreements.
  • Hands-on experience with biweekly payroll processing, reconciliations, and year-end activities.
  • Proficiency in payroll systems (Dayforce HCM preferred) and advanced Excel skills for reporting and reconciliations.
  • Solid understanding of pension and benefits administration, including compliance with plan rules and regulatory requirements.

WHAT ADDITIONAL SKILLS ARE AN ASSET

  • Bilingual in English and French
  • Experience within a complex 24-7, unionized environment is an asset
  • Certification such as PCP (Payroll Compliance Practitioner) or CPM (Certified Payroll Manager) from the National Payroll Institute is an asset.
