Working closely with many internal and external stakeholders, our Civil Construction team works hard to ensure the continuous development and improvement of our international airport and its facilities. WHAT YOU WILL DO
Reporting to the Director, Infrastructure, the General Manager, Civil Construction will lead the development and successful delivery of civil projects. This also includes contractor and consultant negotiations, financial management and comprehensive reporting to all stakeholders. The General Manager, Civil Construction will act as the main project representative with all airport partners and ensure there is strong buy-in and alignment for all projects. This role will also lead and mentor a group of passionate Project Managers and Coordinators.
Primary responsibilities include:
•Manage and coordinate planning, design, construction, installation, testing, commissioning and turn-over activities to successfully complete civil projects at the Calgary Airport
•Ensure the Civil Construction team has a strong understanding of business outcomes and deliverables for all projects and that there is a meaningful commitment to change management practices to increase the quality and support for the new facilities being delivered
•Along with other members of Infrastructure leadership team, assist in the long term and short term planning efforts for the overall Infrastructure team
•Provide leadership, direction and support to the Civil Construction team:
o Plan, staff and direct work activities, distributing work assignments to team
o Establish performance goals with staff to meet corporate goals and that align with the strategic direction of the company
o Provide mentorship and coaching to Project Managers, Project Coordinators and supporting staff
o Evaluate and provide feedback on the performance and development of staff
•Responsible for negotiations with contractors or consultants. Directs the preparation of studies simulations, contract documents/ drawings, specifications, schedules and cost estimates
•Managing the activities of all project phases by coordinating a multitude of tasks and personnel while delivering completed projects in a fiscally responsible and timely manner
•Managing annual program budgets, cash flows and approving progress payments in accordance with work performed
•Maintain highest standards of quality assurance and is responsible for managing risk and preparing alternate plans or value engineering proposals as required
•Act as The Authority’s main project representative with regulatory agencies, contractors, consultants, suppliers and third party inspectors for civil projects
•As required, function as a “Project Manager” for defined initiatives, transitions or additional support
WHAT YOU BRING
•P.Eng, or P.L.Eng certification.
•Master’s degree or MBA is considered an asset
•PMP certification is considered an asset
•15+ years’ experience in engineering or project management with proven experience in civil or airfield construction such as; Apron Reconstruction, Taxiway Reconstruction, Parkade Upgrades, Storm Drainage, Dry Ponds, Electrical Airfield, Roads Rehabilitation
•Experience in project management, including PM methodology, financial budgeting & forecasting, contracting, documentation, communication and other day to day project management activities
•Strong leadership skills demonstrated through previous supervisory and people management experience
•Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to deal with a wide variety of stakeholders
•Business-oriented mindset with strong judgment and strategic thinking
•Ability to work and manage under pressure and respond to critical and/or changing priorities throughout the day
•Ability to demonstrate tactfulness, collaborative nature and professionalism
•Strategic Management skills including planning, financial, analysis, business development and risk analysis are required
•Ability to successfully deliver multiple, high dollar value, projects/initiatives with competing priorities. Experience in projects with $30M+ budget
•Strong knowledge of building construction processes. Experience working in a brown field projects
•Must be able to meet and maintain the requirements of a Safety Sensitive position, this includes pre-employment medical assessment and Drug & Alcohol testing
•Must be able to obtain and maintain a Restricted Area Identification Card (RAIC)
