The Calgary Airport Authority has recently updated its corporate Sustainability Strategy that will guide our organization in achieving important environmental protection goals and meeting sustainability performance targets. The Authority is targeting zero waste by 2050, net-zero emissions by 2050 and 30% reduction in water use over 2018 intensity by 2050. The programs that support YYC’s Sustainability Strategy are managed by an energetic and close-knit team who collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to achieve environmental and sustainability goals. The also responsible for monitoring and minimizing the impact of the airport’s operations on the environment. WHAT YOU WILL DO

You will provide support to the Environmental Services department by supporting regular surface water and groundwater monitoring, researching and assessing environmental issues and sustainability opportunities, conducting analysis of environmental and sustainability datasets, and conducting other field surveys with our team.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Assist in sampling (groundwater, surface water and soil)
  • Assist in the deployment of the noise monitoring equipment
  • Input and analysis of environmental and sustainability data
  • Organization and inventory of sampling equipment and materials
  • Support site inspections and field surveys
  • Onsite support of sustainability-related initiatives that will support achieving goals stated in our strategy

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Pursuing a post-secondary education in environmental science, geography, engineering or a related discipline
  • Excellent computer skills
  • Proficiency in qualitative and quantitative data analysis
  • Introductory-level proficiency in geographic information systems and a willingness to advance these skills
  • Ability to synthesize research and analysis into reports
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Detail oriented and ability to stay organized while balancing multiple tasks
  • Awareness, and preferably some experience with, environmental monitoring and sampling
  • Ability to work effectively as a team player and independently
  • Highly flexible and adaptive
  • Safety-conscious

WHAT ELSE?

  • To qualify as a co-op or internship student, you must be enrolled in a post-secondary program where a work term is a formal requirement of the program and provide documentation to that effect.
  • A valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License or equivalent, subject to driver’s abstract review
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a restricted area identification card (RAIC)
