We are seeking an inspiring and strategic leader for the role of Senior Director, People.  As YYC’s People Team leader and as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, you will provide strategic leadership on YYC’s journey of transformation by creating and integrating employee experience, DEI, and resilience strategies into YYC’s culture. Your approach will be based on a strong foundation of partnership between our business functions and the People team, continually improving our ability to efficiently execute people processes and systems and delivering on our focused efforts to create and deliver programs that develop our people and enrich their employee experience. 

To achieve this exciting vision and transformation YYC needs a People Team leader that is:
  • Energetic and enthusiastic with the knowledge and confidence to succeed in the implementation of compelling and engaging strategic initiatives, and the executive maturity to effectively communicate across the organization.
  • Fluent and experienced in guiding transformational change and leading people teams to meet the evolving needs and priorities of the business. 
  • Excited by a high profile and high pace environment and can expertly balance empathy and pragmatism to deliver on organizational priorities. 
  • A trusted advisor, mentor, coach to employees and leaders; is forward looking and hands-on, with the ability to effectively build and articulate business cases for change. 
  • A strategic partner in the creation and distribution of internal communications amongst stakeholder groups.
  • Serve on the Senior Leadership Team and collaborate in championing employee experience to build culture and engagement across YYC. 
  • Lead a People Team of approximately 17 HR professionals that develops and communicates people and organizational development strategies and programs with the goal to attract, retain, develop, and inspire the best people to deliver on YYC’s North Star, values, and strategies. 
  • Build capacity in best people practices and policies; steward workforce planning and diversity, equity, inclusion initiatives; develop and implement innovative approaches to talent management, leadership, employee, and organization development. 
  • Create and promote healthy workplace strategies; foster and manage an effective employee/labour relations environment, oversee talent acquisition, orientation, and onboarding programs.
  • Oversee the delivery and administration of effective total rewards and compensation programs including market-based pay, pay equity, employee benefits and pension, wellness and disability management, HR information systems, and payroll delivery.
  • Deep knowledge and expertise across the entire people function with progressive experience managing People/Employee Relations/Labour Relations teams. 
  • Ability to set and communicate a strategic vision.
  • Strong leadership capability to operationalize people programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to influence and build strong relationships with multiple stakeholders.
  • Ability to impact and influence at all levels of the organization to achieve optimal outcomes.
  • University degree with completion of a Certified HR professional designation and/or master’s degree in Human Resources, Industrial Relations or a related field, or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience at an executive level.
  • Minimum of 10 years of senior leadership in human resources/labour relations management in a unionized environment.
  • Experience working closely with internal communications team is considered an asset.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a restricted area identification card (RAIC)
  • This role is eligible for our hybrid remote work model with a combination of in-office and remote work.
